I was wondering what kind of blog to write in order to start a blog so epic that the blog itself intends to make all other blogs obsolete. Determining that was impossible, I knew if I was to acquire any success in such a vast field of writing, where it's hard to tell the difference between idiotic observations of amateurs from that of a serious, creatively brilliant blogger and which will become popular. (My sanity and grammar may be questionable at times, but my spelling will never be) First off, I knew that I (Troy Lightner) would have to use my talents as a writer and intertwine that with a certain aspect of life that I feel passionate about. Thankfully, my best friend encouraged me to create a sports blog that challenges the conventional "wisdom" of the mainstream media, and to write the objections so many intelligent sports fans have been dying to express on a grander scale than their local sports talk radio program. With the ability to look up any individual or team statistics on the internet at any time and/or the inclusion of fantasy sports in so many sports fans' lives, this has become an age where many sports fans (even casual ones) are capable of comprehending so many more complexities of sports than they're given credit for. The media and specifically ESPN is brainwashing their viewers, and that is where we begin...
When a sports observer finds his or her way to http://www.espn.com/ http://www.foxsports.com/ or http://www.si.com/ , he or she will be expecting opinion & analysis from unique and/or respected personalties, but most importantly, facts, statistics & general information (evidence) that back up each writer's claims and views. Unfortunately, it seems as though more often than not, internet readers are subjected to one-sided, flawed argumentative opinion, presented with weak or no factual support. This, opposed to fair & balanced (much like Fox News) analysis and perspective that takes into account all the facts and possibilities. Individuals should only be entertaining you with their opinion after they've given you the ability to make up your own mind. Only with a culmination of information and a multitude of sources should these so called sports news entities promote their own ideology.
If you think about it, each successful sports news organization has their own agenda. In order to be competetive, they may have to write favorable articles on athletes or teams trying to gain more access into the minds and/or locker rooms of those athletes and teams than their opposition. This being the case, fans should be getting their daily sports updates and information from an unbiased individual web site or sports blog (like this one) and their opinion from an unbiased individual (like the writers on this site) who gathers the facts from all the major sports news corporations, league web sites, newspapers and lesser known sources. I am a personality and I have strong opinions, but those opinions are based on all the facts and perspectives I can find, and I will always accept the possibility that there are infinite possibilities and that my opinion is wrong. I am only searching for the truth about players and teams in the MLB, NFL, and NBA, because I want to know just as much as any other fanatic. I suppose the difference is that I have gotten quite sick of believing whatever ESPN tells me to believe and listening to the objective thoughts of the local sportscasters. I want answers, I want the truth, and then I want more fans to follow my lead.
